grant programs  |   Juvenile Accountability Block Grant Program

Published: August 28, 2015

The basic premise underlying the Juvenile Accountability Block Grant (JABG) Program is that both offender-focused and system-focused activities must hold the offender accountable and address the fact that three parties are affected by juvenile crime, the offender, the victim and society. For the juvenile offender, accountability means an assurance of facing individualized consequences through which he or she is made aware of, and held responsible for the loss, damage, or injury perpetrated on a victim. Strengthening the juvenile justice system requires an increased capacity to develop youth competence, to efficiently track juveniles through the system, and to provide enhanced options such as restitution, community service, victim-offender mediation, and other restorative justice sanctions that reinforce the mutual obligations of an accountability-based juvenile justice system.

Published: July 31, 2015

The Illinois criminal justice information authority’s Budget Committee Orientation Meeting will be held on August 6th, 11:30-1:30pm, at our offices at 300 West Adams, Suite 200, Chicago.

At this meeting, Authority staff will give an overview of our grant making process. To that end, staff members have put together a manual that describes our federal funding sources for your reference. As you’ll see, we have prefaced the manual with an Authority Resolution, adopted in 2001, that establishes ten Grant Making Principles, which we think provides strategic and inspiring guidance for our work.

At this meeting, we will also be introducing a new Budget Committee recommendation format. Please take a look at it and let us know at the meeting if it provides you with the information you need as a Budget Committee member.

The meeting will end with a presentation and vote on a budget recommendation to support a conference the Authority plans to convene in Peoria to help local jurisdictions reduce gun violence.
